Discover how green hydrogen and biofuels could create 1.7 million jobs across Europe and boost GDP by 145 billion euros by 2040

The landmark study, “Green Molecules: The Upcoming Revolution in the European Employment Market”, by ManpowerGroup and Cepsa, forecasts that Spain will lead in green hydrogen production and related employment growth with 181,000 new jobs by 2040, followed by the United Kingdom with 173,000, Germany with 145,000 and France with 105,000. A total of 1.7 million new green jobs could be created across Europe by 2040 thanks to the development of these green molecules, such as green hydrogen and biofuels.

This new activity could also boost gross domestic product in the euro zone by 145 billion euros by 2040, or an average of 8.5 billion euros per year. The economic impact of those jobs will lead to cumulative GDP growth estimated at 1.3 trillion euros, equivalent to 8% of EU-27 GDP in 2022.

The transition requires reskilling and upskilling 60% of professionals in Europe to equip them with crucial green skills and this report also analyzes which profiles and skills are required to achieve these projections.

Additionally, the study provides proposals to make this forecast a reality.
